The incident occurred at Bhosale Shinde Arcade, located on Jungli Maharaj Road around 3.30 pm on October 23 last year.
Ajay Dhayatkar (33), director of a software firm, Wave Technology, was killed after he was trapped in the elevator door while entering it.
According to the complaint, Dhayatkar died due to the negligence of the Ikon Elevators, a lift maintenance company and the builder. The accident happened as there was a problem with the lift door safety mechanism. "It was the lift maintenance company's duty to see to it that the lift, which had problem, is not in use. Despite fully knowing about the risk in case a person uses the lift, the company allowed the lift to be used resulting in the death of Dhayatkar."
The complaint registered by senior police inspector Jaywant Deshmukh of Deccan police station mentioned that a prominent person had given the contract of lift maintenance to Ikon Elevators.
The company was negligent in maintaining the lift resulting in the death of Dhayatkar. As soon as he entered the lift, it went up and he was caught in the moving lift resulting in his death.
Dhayatkar was a resident of Bhusari Colony, Kothrud. Senior police inspector V V Palsule was investigating the case then.
