Vadodara Even as the Godhra Municipality has elected BJP leader Murli Moolchandani as its president, two cases of negligence filed against him in the Dussehra effigy burning case are still pending.

According to Inspector R S Babhor of Godhra Town police, the complaints are pending against the then President, Gangaram Harwani and the Vice-President, Murli Moolchandani.

However, local administration officials were not able to comment if the re-election, which took place on Tuesday following the dismissal of Harwani, would be deemed as invalid.

Resident District Collector R K Rathod said he could not comment on the issue.

At least 20 people received injuries while the maker of the Ravana effigy died when the effigy exploded during Dussehra celebrations in the town in 2008.

"The complaint was filed by the police against Moolchandani, Harwani and two other officials including the deceased effigy-maker," said a police official. The investigation is still on in the issue, he said.
