Junagadh Failing to meet their parents’ aspirations, two youths, one engineering student and another BEd student, committed suicide on the outskirts of Amreli. Their bodies were recovered on Tuesday afternoon.

The police also recovered the suicide note which reveals that the two youths had taken the extreme step out of frustration.

Sandip Makwana (23) and Vipul Zala (22) — both residents of Dwarkesh Nagar in Amreli — were close friends. They were reportedly missing since Tuesday night.

Both were found dead from the Pankhan area near the aerodrome on the outskirts of Amreli. Zala had recently completed his BEd after his post-graduation and was unemployed. Makwana was the son of a state government employee while Zala’s father is a Sub-Inspector.

Investigating officer Sub-Inspector R B Mirza said: “A suicide note has been recovered from the spot where the two bodies were found. Prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide. The two youths had consumed poisonous tablets.”

According to Mirza, the suicide note recovered from Vipul's body read: “Nobody wants to die in such a way. For this (extreme step) I am solely responsible. Nobody is involved in this (act of suicide). By failing to meet the aspiration of our parents, we do not have any right to live. Nobody should be held responsible for our act. I have done this solemnly and no other person has motivated me to do so. Forgive me.”

Mirza said the postmortem report has revealed that the two youths had died of poisoning.

“Further investigations are on and the statements of the parents of the two youths are yet to be taken as they are busy performing the last rites,” said Mirza.

The incident has become the talk of the town in Amreli and sent shockwaves as the youths were highly educated and ambitious. The police have ruled out any other angle in the case.
