Mumbai A sessions court on Tuesday convicted two men in two separate cases for raping minors in December 2007. The first accused, Sagar Kadam (21), who worked as a photographer was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and the other, Sharad Rathore (20), was sentenced to 10 years.

Kadam, a resident of Satara, had met a 15-year-old girl from Mumbai during his assignment at a wedding. According to the prosecution, Kadam was in touch with the victim, made false promises of marriage and lured her into a physical relationship with him. Later when the girl realized that Kadam had made false promises, she informed her parents about their relationship. During the investigation, the police learnt that a friend of Kadam, one Bhanudas Satpute, was also involved and had allegedly raped the victim. However, Satpute was acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence.

Another accused, Rathore, was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a nine-year-old girl who stayed with her father in Juhu.

According to the prosecution, the girl had gone out to fetch medicines for her father. On seeing the girl alone, Rathore dragged her to a nearby empty building and raped her.

She was also beaten up by Rathore before being raped. The girl informed the father about the incident and the accused was arrested.
