Constable Maruti Avhad of Bandra police station and constable Bala Andhane of the Local Arms Unit-4, were riding a motorcycle from Padgha when a tanker hit them from behind at the Mumbai-Agra Highway. Andhane died before he could be taken to the hospital while Avhad is recuperating at Nanavati Hospital.

In Vile Parle, Assistant Police Inspector Mahaswami Pillai of the Intelligence Bureau was riding his motorcycle near Chakala when he lost control over the bike after the tyres skid. He fell under the wheels of a private bus. The injured policeman was rushed to Cooper Hospital in a police car but was declared brought dead. Vile Parle police arrested the bus driver.

“In this case we cannot really say that the driver is at fault,” said Police Sub Inspector H Deshmukh of Vile Parle police station. “However, he has been charged with rash and negligent driving,” added Deshmukh.
