New Delhi Two officers of the Delhi Police committed suicide on Monday.

Khajan Singh, a 54-year-old assistant sub-inspector, committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Saboli village in Harsh Vihar. Police sources said the incident was reported around 3 pm, when Singh’s son went to his room to give him tea. He, however, found him hanging and called the police. The police said he hanged himself with cloth bandages.

The police said Singh was posted at the Bhajanpura police station in Northeast Delhi. “He had not been going to work these past few weeks due to an illness and got a call from the police station today because of this. He said he would come to work today for sure,” the police said. Singh is survived by four sons and four daughters.

A 40-year-old constable posted in the Naraina police station shot himself with his service revolver inside the toilet of the police station on Monday. The police said the incident took place around 5 am.

The police said the deceased, identified as Kailash Chand, a native of Rajasthan, was posted at the police station since December 2007. “Some officers present at the time of incident said Kailash first locked himself inside the toilet and then shot himself. The other officers broke open the toilet door upon hearing the gunshot and rushed him to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” a police officer said.

The officer said Kailash’s body has been sent for a postmortem and his family has been informed. A senior officer said the exact reason behind Kailash’s suicide has not been ascertained, as no suicide note was recovered from him. Further investigations are being carried out in the matter.
