Two die in accidents near CTU workshop

Chandigarh, January 8 Two people died in separate accidents near the CTU workshop today taking the number of accident deaths this year to 10.

Vijay Kumar, a 25-year-old Mauli Complex resident, was hit by an unidentified vehicle around 1.30 am when he was on his way back from Burail on a bicycle. Sources said he had gone to Burail to meet a friend on Monday night.

Vijay was rushed to GMCH-32 in a Police Control Room vehicle. Doctors at GMCH-32 referred Vijay Kumar to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital-16 where he was declared brought dead.

Vijay worked as a painter and mason. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

Nearly 10 hours after the accident, around 11.30 am at the same spot, 31-year-old Uttam, a resident of Daria village, was run over by a truck. The driver fled leaving behind his truck.

Uttam was on his bicycle when the truck rammed into him killing him on the spot. Uttam was taken to GMCH-32 in a PCR vehicle where he was declared brought dead. Uttam worked as a labourer and is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. His body will be handed over to his family on Wednesday after the postmortem.
