New Delhi Two people, among them a woman, were killed and one person was injured in two separate road accidents in the Capital.

A 32-year-old woman was killed and her husband was injured when the scooter they were travelling on was hit from behind by a DTC recovery van in the Seemapuri area of Northeast Delhi around 7 pm on Saturday.

The police said the deceased, identified as Lata Arora, was riding pillion with her husband Vijay Arora. Their scooter was hit from behind by a DTC recovery van pulling another DTC bus near a traffic light. The couple fell off the scooter and received multiple body and head injuries.

“While Lata died on the way to the hospital, her husband was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where his condition is reported to be out of danger,” a police officer said.

The police have arrested bus driver Raj Karan and are investigating the matter. Lata’s body has been sent for a postmortem. The police said the couple, residents of Ghaziabad, were returning home from a relative’s house in Seemapuri.

In the second accident, a 42-year-old Nepalese national was crushed to death by an unknown vehicle in the Alipur area of Outer Delhi early on Sunday.

The police said the accident took place around 1 am, when the deceased was returning home after paying a visit to a relative in Bakoli village.

The police said the deceased, Vikram Shah, was found lying on the road by a passer-by. A PCR call was made.

“He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” a police officer said. Shah’s body was later sent to Babu Jag Jivan Ram Hospital for a postmortem.

The police have registered a case and a manhunt has been launched to catch the driver responsible.
