As per the prosecution, Kuldip Kaur, a resident of Ikolahi village was married to Saudagar Singh and later gave birth to a son.Immediately after their wedding, Saudagar and his mother raised a demand for a scooter. After a few months, Saudagar demanded a gold bracelet.
When the duo realised that their demands are falling on the deaf ears, the duo started tormenting Kuldip.
In May 1999, they threw Kuldip out of her home for not bringing sufficient dowry. After Kuldip’s parents told her in-laws about their financial status, they took her back. After a few months, Saudagar demanded Rs 15,000 from his in-laws. Kuldip’s father Charan Singh promised the duo to pay the amount later. However the next morning, on December 11, 2001, they came to know that Kuldip had committed suicide. A case was registered against Saudagar and Jaswant Kaur.
Meanwhile, the accused pleaded innocence and claimed false implication. The defence counsel stated that there were no injury marks on the body of the deceased, which could establish torture. Pronouncing the verdict, the court held that the prosecution had successfully proved the guilt of the accused.
