Kolkata Two teenage girls died after being run over by a local train while they were trying to cross the rail tracks in between Dasnagar and Ramrajatala stations.

Priyanka Das (15) and Purnima Malik were crossing the tracks to meet another friend when they were run over by the Kharagpur down local around 5 pm. Locals said the two students of Ichapur Senior High School were on their way to collect a third friend to go and watch a Shivratri cultural function nearby.

A Class IX student, Priyanka was a resident of Ichapur and while Purnima was a Class VII student who lived in Kamardanga.

Locals said the gates at the railway crossing were down when the girls decided to cross over.

Incidentally, this is the same spot where the body of 32-year-old Kaushik Pal was recovered a day earlier. A resident of Belur, the manager at an electronic shop in Uluberia had gone missing since Saturday evening.

Locals said a turning near the Dasnagar station makes it difficult for pedestrians to see the approaching train. Even for the passengers waiting at the Dasnagar station, it becomes difficult to see an approaching train unless it has passed that particular bend. The locals have been requesting the authorities for an over-bridge in the area.
