The inmates, Sandeep Goenka, a businessman and his wife, Pallavi, who had reportedly organised the party, were found with minor injuries, when a city police patrolling van spotted the fire.
The couple were taken to a private hospital and have survived with 25 per cent burns.
The police seized 17 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in the house. About 20-odd people were reportedly partying at the place.
Satellite police station Inspector J J Patel, said: “We seized some bottles of liquor from there. The New Year bash at the house had many invitees. The exact reason is unknown, but we suspect that somebody must have left the cigarette bud on, which led to the fire.”
The city police are inquiring further into the accident and are awaiting the FSL reports. The police are also interrogating the invitees of the party and tracing them through their car numbers and addresses.
