Kolkata Two children drowned after falling into an illegal quarry in Salanpur, Asansol, on Sunday. Following the incident, locals held a protest and refused to part with the bodies. Significantly, last year three children had lost their lives in the same area in a similar manner.

According to the police, Anupam Karmakar (4) and Prasenjit Dutta (5), residents of Salanpur village, were playing badminton in the fields when their shuttle cock fell into the nearby brick quarry, which was used to dig up fire clay for specialised bricks. While trying to take out their shuttle cock, both the children fell into the quarry, which was filled with water.

Later, locals fished out their bodies and began a protest in the area demanding closure of illegal quarries and compensation for the families of the victims.

The protest was withdrawn around 2 pm after the administration promised to arrest those behind digging up illegal quarries in the area.

Biswanath Roy, a member of Salanpur panchayat, said: “We will approach the district administration seeking compensation for the families of the victims.”

TDS on Interest by prajesh vyas on 07 May 2009

If a director takes loan in his personal name and give that laon to Company, then in this case if interest come under the TDS slab, ( more than 5000/-) then TDS is applicable or not...coz company pays the interest not directly to Bank, company pays interest to director (interest equals to charged by bank). and director pays the interest to Bank or company transfers the interest amount to his loan A/c.Please give me ur opinion on this,ASAP.Thanks
