Mumbai The Samta Nagar police on Saturday arrested four people on charges of gang rape. Two of the arrested are minors. The other two have been identified as Sujit Mohite (19) and Deepak Pandey (20). According to the police, the prime accused, Mohite, who stays in the same area as the victim in Kandivli had been a friend of the victim for the past four years.

According to the Samta Nagar police, on Saturday afternoon, they were approached by the victim’s mother who informed them that her daughter had tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills on Friday. Assistant Police Inspector Bapu Bandalkar from the Samta Nagar police station said, “When we went to take the girl’s statement, she told us that she had been lured by Mohite to an abandoned room in Samta Nagar around one and a half months back where his three friends were waiting.”

As the victim was threatened against telling anyone, she did not inform her parents about the incident. “However, a few days back Mohite approached the victim and said that he had shot nude pictures of her with a mobile phone. He further demanded Rs 2 lakh. He also threatened to circulate the pictures on the internet if she failed to pay. As she had no way to pay the money the victim decided to take her own life and consumed sleeping pills,” said Bandalkar. He added, “As the other two accused are known to be minors, they have been sent to Nagpada Police Hospital for medical examination.”
