Following the arrest, the CBI also conducted a search at the respective houses of the accused — Inspector SK Hingad and Sub-Inspector Shobhit Bisht ¿- to collect the details about their assets.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CBI, Lucknow, Pankaj Srivastava said: “The narcotics officials had sent a Ghaziabad businessman, Singhraj, to jail framing him in a false case in December last.”

“Now they were threatening the family members to either pay Rs 2 lakh or they would also send the victim’s teenaged son to jail in the same case,” he said.

They had also assured the family members of extending help in getting Singhraj released if they paid the amount, said Srivastava.

This case came to light when one Kartar Singh of Ghaziabad contacted the Lucknow CBI office stating that two officials were demanding bribe, said the DIG.

The officials had arrested Singh’s brother in December claiming recovery of a chemical, Acetyl Anhydride, from the possession of Singhraj.

Singh said the policemen later sent a notice to his Ghaziabad residence asking Singhraj’s son to come to the Narcotics office at Mahanagar and get his statement recorded. The narcotics officials also called up Singh and asked to arrange for the money if he wanted to get his brother released soon and to avoid arrest of the teenaged son of the accused.

“We found that the narcotics officials had framed a false case against Singhraj. The victim runs a business of selling chemicals and medical equipment and had never been in touch with any of the drug mafia ever,” said Srivastava.
