Pride, valour, reminiscences and achievement-these were just some of the emotions that crossed the faces of the recipients of this years Godfrey Phillips Bravery Awards under various categories. From Social Acts of Courage to Physical bravery and Mind of Steel-the awards for Delhi, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh were distributed by Lt Gen Gautam Dutt, VSM, Chief of Staff, Central Command at the Taj Residency at a glittering function on Thursday evening.

Earlier in the day, announcing the awards, Harmanjeet Singh, General Secretary, introduced the press to the awardees of the evening. These included Late Ratnesh and Devendra Singh (Gold-posthumous), Mehraj and Wahid Khan (Silver) Dr Tony Gupta and Jagat Singh Dashauni (Bronze) for Physical bravery and Kapil Kumar Agarwal, Raja Ram, Sandeep Kumar Chawla, Raj Bahadur Verma and Uma Shanker Pandey for Social Acts of Bravery. Delhi Social worker Ms Sarvesh and former Lucknow varsity Vice Chancellor Prof RP Singh were given the Mind of Steel Award for their contributions towards social change and efforts to improve social order.

While unlike last year, actor Preity Zinta was missing from the programme, comperé Shammi Narang added soul to the introductions, describing each act of valour with emotion and pride.
