Despite state government’s decision to introduce Common Entrance Test (CET) for the post-graduate medical courses, Gujarat University and South Gujarat University have floated advertisements announcing the dates of their respective entrance tests.

The advertisements have been dated December 16 and December 26 respectively. While GU will hold its test on January 25, South Gujarat University has fixed January 26 for the exam.

Enraged members of the Parents Association have, meanwhile, filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court demanding the introduction of CET.

Nayan Dave, General Secretary, Parents Association, said: “The state government should have ensured the introduction of CET. Letters to this effect were sent to all the universities, yet two universities have announced separate tests. We have moved the high court. This has been a deliberate delay by the government.”

Dave added that the delay was there even as a separate committee under the chairmanship of Kanubhai Kansaria was formed for the matter, which had studied the requirement.

In June 2008, the government had shot off letters to all the universities in Gujarat, announcing the decision to introduce CET along with a set of rules and regulations for the purpose.

Medical College, the implementation of CET was

delayed. The students of GU had earlier alleged that CET would be a biased move against them, as they would have to face more competition.

In CET, the GU students will have to compete with 3,000 students as against the current figure of 500. They had been demanding up

gradation of infrastructure, curriculum and evaluation system of other colleges to GU’s level before introducing CET.
