Both are accused of corruption in a railway paver block construction project in 2007.
Acting on a tip-off about substandard construction work and alleged corruption and fabrication of records, a team of CBI officials made a surprise visit to the site and collected samples of the construction material used by the contractor. The samples were later sent to the Gujarat Engineering Research Institute (GERI) for analysis.
“It was found that cement and other construction materials were of substandard quality. The samples also failed
in the strength test by the GERI,” said a CBI officer.
The CBI also searched office and residential premises of Tolani and Singh, and based on incriminating evidence found during these searches, the CBI filed an FIR against them. The raids were on till the last reports came in today.
According to the CBI, Mumbai-based firm Paresh Madani had been given the contract for constructing cement paver blocks at level crossings along the Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar metre gauge line in 2007. The project got over a year later.
