The theme was selected considering the present scenario of increasing tensions and conflicts at the national and international level.

Keeping the focus on growing aggression and violence among children and youth these days, professors from across the country suggested measures to curb violence and maintain a cordial and peaceful atmosphere.

The chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, Professor Vidhu Mohan, emphasised on the role of empathy and relationships in dealing with conflicts.

Professor Mohan suggested various measures to maintain peace and devise peaceful resolutions to curb ‘destructive’ conflicts.

Another eminent speaker on the occasion was Professor Rajbir Singh, who in his keynote address, spoke about the root cause of conflicts and emphasised on the importance of mediation and negotiation. He became a professor of Psychology at the young age of 34 and is now teaching at the MD University in Rohtak.

“The problem starts when we attach ourselves to one thing, succumb to a situation and want to win all the time,” said a philosophical Professor Singh.

Professor Girishwar Misra from the University of Delhi emphasised on the importance of non-violence and explained the ‘true meaning’ of peace.

The organising secretary of the conference, Dr Neelam Rathee, said, “Our vision is the development of sustainable societies by preventing conflict and violence, amelioration of its consequences, empowerment of individuals and the building of cultures of peace and global community so that we can contribute to the development of a peaceful and just world.”

She added, “We have received a very encouraging response from participants from all over India as well as from the international front. It is a matter of great honour that we have received papers by psychologists from USA and Iran, raising the conference to an international status.”
