State health minister Anant Mishra was present at the meeting.
He said, “Polio eradication is the top priority of our government. We will give any support that you want for achieving this goal.”
The state government has planned to put up around 140 health camps in the state during the pulse polio drive.
The committee, formed about two years ago to fight polio in the Muslim dominated areas of the state, has also decided to address other health issues, like routine immunisation and malnutrition.“We want to spread the message of good health through the Ulamas as people listen and have faith in them,” said Ashok Mahajan, Director Rotary International.
He added, “About Rs 87,000 will be given by the state government for each of these camps, the Rotary will give Rs 25,000 along with technical support.”
Sources said the fund will be given to respective districts through State Innovations in Family Planning Services Project Agency.
“We are finalising the structure of these camps. Chief medical officers have been asked to identify two high-risk areas in their respective districts, Ulamas can give advocacy in these camps,” said Mahajan.
