Lucknow After registering their protest at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi, the Azamgarh Ulema Council has booked two trains to Lucknow to stage a demonstration in the state capital on February 20.

As in Delhi, the gathering would protest against the Batla House encounter and the arrest of Azamgarh youths in terror cases across the country.

One train each would be leaving from Jaunpur and Azamgarh railway stations with hundreds of agitators.

The schedule of departure and the booking amount is yet to be decided by the Chief Passenger and Transportation Manager’s (CPTM) office at Northern Eastern Railways (NER) Headquarters, Gorakhpur.

The founder of Ulema Council Amir Rashadi said, “We had placed a demand for five trains to be booked from the CPTM office, but the authorities accepted the demand for only two. The application in under process and we would be informed by Tuesday.”

The Chief PRO at the Gorakhpur headquarters Amit Singh said, “The process about the trains booking would be confirmed from the division office tomorrow.”

When inquired, D N Jha, NER’s Divisional Railway Manager at Varanasi, said, “The Gorakhpur headquarters is yet to inform us about the booking. I will make the arrangements when the bookings are confirmed.”

Rashadi said they had also submitted an application to the district magistrate of Lucknow seeking permission for a gathering at the Jyotiba Phule Stadium.

“We will not be staging an agitation at the Vidhan Sabha to avoid trouble to the common men. We will take out a procession from the Vidhan Bhawan to the stadium where a demonstration would be held.”

Lucknow district magistrate Chandra Bhanu said he had not yet seen any application seeking permission for an agitation by people from Azamgarh.
