New Delhi After distributing provisional certificates for regularisation in 1,639 unauthorised colonies in the city, the Delhi government has begun expediting the process of building infrastructure for regularisation in these colonies.

While land ownership reports of 1,400 colonies have already been submitted, Urban Development minister Dr A K Walia took stock of the situation on Tuesday and has reportedly asked the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University to expedite the process of establishing the boundary of each colony. The minister has directed officials to prepare action plans for trunk sewers, drainage and water supply for all 1,639 unauthorized colonies, and to install street lights by March 2009.

As per a report submitted to the minister, pipelines for drinking water have been laid in 475 colonies, whereas work is in progress in 90 such colonies. Tenders are being issued for 199 colonies and estimates for the provision of drinking water through pipelines are being finalised for 254 colonies. As far as laying of sewer lines is concerned, 132 colonies have been identified, while work is in progress in 45 colonies, tenders are being issued for 14 colonies, estimates are being prepared for 20 colonies and sewer lines already exist in 26 such colonies.
