Two ambitious women- one, a writer the other an actress. While the first one has her head firmly placed on her shoulders, the latter believes in achieving her dreams by hook or by crook.. None of them succeeds but then the one to stick by her ethics at least gets a chance to live a satisfied life.

This, in short, is the story of Conditions Apply, the play by S P College Art circle that won them the Firodiya Cup at the intercollegiate theatre competition. What's more, it also fetched them 13 prizes for various other categories.

"We had three scripts with us and we were confused as to which one to choose. We had practised Conditions Apply earlier and that is how we decided to present the same one," says Mrunmayee Deshpande who played the role of the writer in the play. After the script it was time for the cast. While most of them want to be right there on the stage, the members of this art circle were very well aware of their responsibilities. "It was quite simple for us. The actor that we had earlier selected had his Std 12 exams. The obvious choice after that was Anuja Sathe and Mrunmayee Deshpande as they come from an acting background," smiles Tejas Devdhar, the man behind the entire management.

"Doing Firodiya is like making an entire film. You are given one hour and you have to manage everything. Out of the total crew of 25 people you are allowed to use two professionals but we did not use a single professional and did everything on our own," says a proud Anuja. When it is a film, how can it be complete without songs? So while Pallavi Bapat and Deepika Jog gave the background voices, Sneha Godse managed the choreography for songs like Badal pe pav hain and Rohan Vanage learnt the drums in 20 days.

The set was designed by Panini and Bhushan. The stage had four sections through which varied emotions were portrayed simultaneously. "Our theme was our play. I am good at yoga so I did some asanas on the stage that depicted the mood of the play,” says Sudhanwa Limaye, one of the team members.

And though there was no dearth of talent and commitment , what got them the prize was team spirit, they believe. And now the team is waiting eagerly to perform at the Ganesh Kala Krida manch, where they will be awarded as the winners, by the hands of actor Jackie Shroff on March 12. Way to go!
