Senior leader from Burrabazar, Sanjay Bakshi and four others were on her hitlist, owing to their nexus with promoters and criminals.
The decision was taken at a core committee meeting of the party held on Wednesday.
Banerjee rapped her leaders, especially those in North 24-Parganas, and warned them against having nexus with criminals or targeting the Congress.
She, however, avoided the media after the meeting and left Leader of Opposition Partho Chatterjee to do the talking.
Asked about the FIR lodged against a Trinamool supporter after the death of a Congress leader in Habra, Chatterjee said: “I will say nothing on this. All matters, including discipline in the party, have been discussed. But everything need not be spelt out in front of journalists.”
Recently, Bapi Choudhury, a local Congress leader was shot dead in Habra while he was conducting a blood donation camp. “Many of our district leaders are now hobnobbing with local criminals, this has been a trend since the Lok Sabha elections,” said a senior Trinamool leader present at the meeting. “Also, instead of jointly fighting the CPM, many of our leaders are competing with the Congress. This is a bad trend.”
At the meeting, the Trinamool also drew up its list for the next round of protests against land acquisition. “We have a string of agitations lined up. On December 29, we will commemorate Krishi Jami Raksha Dibas and Maa Mati Manush Dibas,” said Partho Chatterjee. “There will be rallies across the state.” The party will hold a massive rally in Choto Angaria, East Midnapore, where 11 Trinamool supporters were burnt alive in 2001 allegedly by armed CPM cadres. Banerjee herself will attend it.
