Ludhiana Three school students, all minors, were critically injured after the motorbike they were riding on was hit by a truck on Thursday.

Gurmandeep Singh (15), Prabhjeet Singh (14), students of Class IX and Amanjeet Singh (11), a student of Class VII, study at Jain Public School.

Eyewitnesses said the trio was travelling on the Jamalpur Road when the truck hit them around 12.30 pm. The driver of the truck fled the spot after the accident.

Police said the motorbike belongs to Gurmandeep who was driving it at the time of the accident. The three were rushed to the Christian Medical College and Hospital by the secretary of school management, Mohinder Pal, who rushed to the spot after being informed by eyewitnesses.

The condition of Gurmandeep and Prabhjeet, who received head injuries, is said to be serious while Amanjeet, brother of Gurmandeep, is stated to be out of danger.

The police have, meanwhile, impounded the truck. “The children are not in a position to give a statement now. We will initiate action according to law only after recording their statements,” said Harpal Singh, Station House Officer, Division Number 7.
