Unidentified body found in Mundian Kalan village pond

Ludhiana An unidentified body was found in a pond in Mundian Kalan village on the Chandigarh Road this morning.

According to the police, the body is of a man in his mid 30s. There were injuries marks on his head and his shirt was tied around his neck.

The police suspect that the murderers might have strangled him to death after hitting him on his head with a blunt weapon.

A blood-smeared wooden plank was also found near the pond.

Sources said that some boys spotted the body after their ball fell into the pond.

Senior police officers including SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, DSP Harmohan Singh and the Division number SHO 7 Harpal Singh reached the spot to investigate the matter.

Speaking to Newsline, SSP Dr Gill said that from the preliminary investigations the murder did not appear to be a pre-planned and it seemed that the man had been killed due to some sudden provocation by an acquaintance.

The SSP said that efforts were on to establish the identity of the deceased.

Later, the body was sent to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem.

The police have registered a murder case against unidentified persons and have started investigating the matter.
