Chandigarh, January 4 An unidentified thief shot a youth in his thigh on Thursday night while trying to escape from the victim’s house in Phase X. The youth, Dilshad Singh, had come back to his home in Phase X with his mother and younger brother and he spotted the unknown person coming out of his house. Singh challenged the thief who shot at him.

Dilshad was admitted to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, where the family had to face harassment at the hands of the hospital staff after which Dilshad’s uncle Naginder Singh took him to General Hospital, Sector 16, from where he was referred to PGI.

Dilshad told the police that he had gone to his maternal uncle’s house in Sector 24, Chandigarh, along with his mother and younger brother and he returned to his house in Phase X after having dinner. While he was parking his car, he saw an unidentified person coming out of his house. He challenged the person, who started running. Dilshad followed the man for some distance, but the unidentified man fired at him. “The bullet hit my thigh and the person fled from the spot,” Dilshad said.

When contacted, Phase XI SHO Navdeep Singh said that a case under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code and 25/54/59 Arms Act has been registered in the case. He said the police have recovered a shell from the spot and the investigation is on in the matter.
