Amritsar Stressing the need to complete the ongoing construction work at Rajasansi International Airport at the earliest, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr MS Gill held detailed discussions with the airport manager, construction engineers and contractors.

Dr Gill urged the engineers and contractors to complete the work on arrival and departure lounges at the earliest, and they assured completion within the next fortnight.

Talking about the vacation of land presently occupied by the Indian Airforce, Dr Gill said he would meet Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju and senior officers of the Airforce and the Defence Ministry tomorrow. He added that the report of the committee constituted by the Civil Aviation Ministry in November last to suggest measures for improvement of the airport and connectivity would meet under his chairmanship on February 6.

“The committee will finalise its report, which will be submitted to Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel in the next few days,” he said.

Notably, last week Dr Gill had met the senior officers of the Central Board of Excise and Customs to expedite the establishment of EDI system at the airport.
