The university is planning to construct 20 new buildings as a part of "campus makeover" mission in its premises for which around 1 million square feet land is required. "As the campus makeover mission will require a lot of space, we will have to take back some of our land," said Jadhav. Some premier institutes like C-DAC, IUCAA and Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management are in the university campus.
"Some of the institutes have take over some extra space. We will take back this extra land. The process will be initiated soon. We don't want to take it back forcefully, but it will be a peaceful process with mutual understanding," said Jadhav. "There is a big plan to construct 20 new buildings for various departments and other academic purposes. We will complete the work in next two years. We are planning open and closed auditoriums and convention centre near the entrance. For the exit of the auditorium, we will require some land, which is now in possession of the Vaikunth Mehta Institute. Actually, it is university's land. " he said.
IUCAA director Naresh Dadhich said he is not aware of any such move by the university. "No one from university has contacted me...the land was given to us by the State in 1988 on a 99-year lease."
