Pune Even as the recession hits one and all, things are looking up for the students of University of Pune (UoP). Thanks to the UoP’s tie up with newly formed firm Global Track Talent (GTT), about 1,000 students from different colleges under the UoP will get an opportunity to work with industries as part of GTT’s internship programme.

“The programme will be launched in next two months,” Uma Ganesh, CEO of GTT told The Indian Express on Thursday. GTT is a venture that aims to address the current gap in the demand and supply of trained manpower promoted by seasoned industry professionals from IT, banking, BPO and education sectors. It has tied up with the UoP to provide a range of short and long-term courses in a number of vocational fields and to start with it has launched the courses for 30,000 students in 100 colleges in Pune, Nagar and Nashik.

“The internship programme is a step ahead and we will be providing 1,000 internships to the students in this summer vacation,” said Ganesh. “We will conduct employability index testing in the 50 colleges, affiliated to the UoP, to select the 1,000 students,” she said.

“These students may be from different streams studying at any level. Before putting them into internships with different companies, the GTT will conduct training programmes for a month in April to groom them for the internship,” said Ganesh.

The GTT has tied up with around 50 companies in Pune for the internship programmes. “We have also drawn up a specific methodology to carry out the internships where the students will be assessed continuously. If the companies find them employable they will directly recruit them,” she said.

“We have identified some niche areas where there are around 300 jobs available in sectors like IT, banking and insurance. If the candidates are trained and have a proper skill set, they can be easily accommodated. GTT’s training programme aims at such training and internship will equip the students with required skill sets,” said Ganesh.

“The training programmes to be conducted before internships will cost between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000 depending on which industry a student opts to intern. He/she can recover the fees as students will get stipend during their internships,” she said.
