UP handball team announced

Lucknow The UP Handball Association (UPHA) on Friday announced the UP handball team which will be representing the state in the Senior National Handball Championship (men) to be held at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh from February 21 to 26. The UP team will be led by RK Pandey. The Team: RK Pandey (captain), Sanjeev Kumar, Vimlesh Dhruv, Yunus Khan, Ranbeer Rai, Abhijeet Rai, M Musharraf, Aditya Nath Yadav, Avtar Singh, Anil Kumar, Ram Karan, Nadeem Ahmed, Atul, Sanjeev, Sandeep Rai, M Zafar. Chief Coach: RK Singh; Asst. coach: YA Sharma.

Laxman, Rani Laxmibai awards
The Sports Directorate (UP) has invited applications on prescribed format for the highest state sports awards----Laxman and Rani Laxmibai awards for the year 2008-09. The applications have been invited in 29 sports. According to Regional Sports Office, Headquarters, the duly completed forms along with two photographs, attested photo copies of required sports certificates and letters from the respective sports associations etc should be submitted at the sports directorate latest by March 15. Interested candidates should contact the sports directorate for details.

Arya Academyin final
Arya Cricket Academy registered a 44 run victory against NRCA in their semi-final match of the Tanveer Akhtar memorial under-17 cricket tournament at the DAV grounds here on Friday.

Batting first, Arya academy scored 198 runs losing all its wickets in the given 40 overs. In reply, NRCA was bowled out at total of 154 runs in 34.4 overs.

Brief Scores: Arya Cricket Academy: 198 all out in 40 overs ( Shalabh Srivastava 42, Pratyush Singh 35, Amitabh 32; Moninder Maurya 3 for 24, Dhananjay Singh 2 for 42);

NRCA: 154 all out in 34.4 overs ( Moninder Maurya 32, Dhananjay 15; Sumit Tiwari 3 for 20, Shamshul 2 for 29).

The team of Mahapuar XI defeated Press XI by two wickets in the final of the Nagar Nigam Trophy 2009 at KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium here on Thursday. Batting first, Press XI compiled 172 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 25 overs. Rajeev Anand made 105 runs in 83 balls while Himanshu Dixit made 26 runs. Akhilesh Singh took 4 wickets which included a hat-trick. Rajendra Pandey took two wickets. In reply, Mahapaur XI achieved the target in 24.1 overs losing eight wickets. Ganesh Kanojia (49), Arvind Mishra (26 not out), Shailendra Singh (29), Waseem Rizvi (20) were the main run-getters. Mayor Lucknow Dr Dinesh Sharma presided over the closing function. Rajeev Anand was declared the Man-of-the-match and `Best batsman' while Shailendra Singh and Akhilesh Singh were adjudged Man-of-the-tournament and `Best bowler', respectively.
