UP Police athletes have a field day

Lucknow Hosts Uttar Pradesh Police had a field day— leading the medal tally with three golds and a silver on the opening day of 57th All India Police Athletics Meet which commenced at the Athletic Stadium of 35th Bn PAC here on Tuesday.

Sunil Kumar Mishra led the gold rush by clinching a gold in the shot put event while Geeta Rai (5000m) and Ajay Kumar Patel (5000m) added two more golds to UP’s kitty.

Navjot Kaur won the 100m race clocking 12.44 seconds to emerge as the fastest athlete in the women’s section. Rahmatulla Molla of West Bengal won the same honours in the men's section by winning the 100m race of the men’s section with a timing of 10.76 seconds. Punjab Police’s AmritpalzSingh lived up to the expectations as he cruised to a comfortable gold in the long jump event. He leaped a distance of 7.67m to claim the gold. Pushpendra Singh (7.57m) and Ajay Raj Singh had to settle for silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The event was inaugurated by UP Chief Minister Mayawati.Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh, Chief Secretary Atul Gupta, Principal Secretary (Home) Kunwar Fateh Bahadur, DGP (UP) Dr Vikram Singh and a host of other dignitaries also graced the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the state government was committed towards sports development and congratulated the Uttar Pradesh Police for organising the meet in a big way. She urged the athletes to imbibe the sporting spirit of the game in the discharge of their duties.

20m shot put (men): 1st Sunil Kumar Mishra (UP, 17.30m), 2nd Sandeep Kumar (CRPF; 17.06m), 3rd Gurdev Singh (Pun; 16.91m);

40m high jump (women): 1st Maryan C Thariyan (CRPF; 1.67m), 2nd Reena (Har; 1.65m), 3rd Divya Sree Jr (CRPF; 1.60M);

Javelin throw (women): 1st Chumki Choudhary (CRPF; 45.57m), 2nd Tuleshwari Patel (CISF; 40.95m), 3rd Promila (Har; 40.85m);

100m race (women): 1st Navjot Kaur (Pun; 12.44s), 2nd Hema Nazreth Bhanga (Mah; 12.53s), Sapnidepal Kaur (Pun; 12.66s);

100m race (men): 1st Rahmatulla Molla (West Bengal; 10.76s), 2nd Jagdish Basak (Mah; 10.79s), 3rd Saji PS (CRPF; 11.06s);

5000m run (men): 1st Ajay Kumar Patel (UP; 14:18.31s), 2nd B Madhusudan (CRPF; 14.30.65s), 3rd Jagmal Singh (BSF; 14:31.98s);

Long jump (men): 1st Amritpal Singh (Pun; 7.67m), 2nd Pushpendra Singh (UP; 7.57m), 3rd Ajay Raj Singh (Pun; 7.47);

5000m run (women): 1st Geeta Rai (UP; 17:14.27s), 2nd S Thobatone Chanu (CRPF; 17:34.11s), 3rd H Jibolata Devi (CRPF; 17:42.92s).
