In a letter sent on February 17 to the senior superintendents of police of both districts, the police have been asked to comply with the directives of the Election Commission. Attached to the letter is an advisory sent by K N Bhan, Under-Secretary of the Election Commission.
SSP (Ghaziabad) Akhil Kumar said, “We will prepare a data of the sensitive zones in the districts.” The local police have also been directed to interact with local residents and encourage them to identify anti-social elements in their areas, and report to the police in case untoward incidents occur on the day of the elections.
“Police stations should prepare a list of trouble-makers along with a list of local people with whom they can hold meetings before the elections and call for cooperation to prevent instances of anti-social elements trying to hinder the effective implementation of the guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India,” the letter states.
Kumar has also advised the police to make a list of phone numbers of people with whom the police can hold meetings.
“The police need to interact with local residents before the elections, so that the force is informed instantly of incidents where people are stopped on their way to the polling booths,” added Kumar. Noida Police too, are gearing up to ensure a trouble-free election process. In a communication, Noida Deputy Inspector General Ashutosh Pandey has asked district heads to create mobile clusters comprising policemen who can act promptly during emergencies. “The clusters will patrol sensitive areas and, in case of trouble, would to reach the spot promptly,” said an officer.
