Lucknow, March 5 The Uttar Pradesh government has announced Kanshi Ram International Sports Award of Rs 10 lakh for cricketer Praveen Kumar, who is from Meerut district.

Praveen’s performance in the second final against Australia in the tri-nation series not only won him the ‘man of the match’ award, but also helped India win the match and the tournament.

The Chief Minister also announced awards of Rs 5 lakh each for UP cricketers Tanmay Srivastava and Iqbal Abdullah, members of the Under 19 cricket world cup winning team.

The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has also announced that Praveen would be given a cash award of Rs 5 lakh for his performance.

Besides, Piyush Chawla, Suresh Raina and Tanmay Srivastava would be given Rs 1 lakh each for being part of their respective winning squads.

Srivastava was part of India’s Under-19 World Cup winning team while Raina and Chawla shared the glory in Australia.

Praveen scalped four wickets, including that of Australian skipper Ricky Ponting in the pulsating final, which India won by nine runs to seal a historic victory.

“Praveen will be rewarded for his performance with this cash prize. Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, Suresh Raina and Tanmay Srivastava will also be rewarded,” Rajiv Shukla, UPCA secretary and BCCI vice-president said.
