UP teams for sub-jr hockey announced

Lucknow The KD Singh ‘Babu’ Memorial Society on Friday announced the two UP teams—namely UP ‘Red’ and UP ‘Blue’ which will be representing the state in the 20th Balrampur Chini All India KD Singh ‘Babu’ Memorial Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament that will commence at Dhyanchand astro-turf stadium from January 24. The tournament will be formally inaugurated by gold medallist of the 1964 Olympics Ali Sayeed at 2.30 pm on Saturday. On day-one four matches will be organised— Bihar vs West Bengal (at 10.00 am), Bhiwani, Haryana vs Assam (at 11.15 am), Cheema Academy, Punjab vs Hyderabad (at 12.30 am), UP ‘Red’ vs Andhra Pradesh (at 2.30 pm).

The UP teams: UP ‘Red’: Prashant (Varanasi), Alok Maurya (Karampur), Ajay Yadav (Athgawan), Pawan Rajbhar (Karampur), Anil Bind (Karampur), Govind Singh Rawat (Lucknow), Abhay (Mau), Shiv Raj Bhar (Karampur), Kishan (Varanasi), Dhananjay Yadav (Varanasi), Praveen (Athgawan), Vishal Thakur (Meerut), Manish (Karampur), Sumit (Varanasi), Ajay Yadav II (Athgawan), Akshay (Varanasi);

UP ‘Blue’: Nikhil (Meerut), Sandeep (Lucknow), Arvind (Varanasi), Vishal Singh (Varanasi), Abhijeet (Lucknow), Neeraj Yadav (Karampur), Chandan Yadav (Athgawan), Anand Patel (Varanasi), Vijay Yadav II (Varanasi), Rahul Verma (Lucknow), Rajat Tomar (Kanpur), Vijay Yadav (Varanasi), Faiz Sarwar (Gorakhpur), Ahmad Jamal (Rampur), Prashant Chaturvedi (Etawah), Gaurav (Varanasi).

BBD team triumphs

THE Babu Banarsi Das institute team registered an impressive 8-1 win against NIEC in their day's match of the Inter College Hockey Tournament being held as a part of the Inter collegiate Sports Meet organised at Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta Stadium, here. The first goal was netted by Rajendra from BBD. Three goals were netted by Mehul Rao. Sunil found the target twice while Amit and Lalit scored apiece. The consolation goal on behalf of NIEC was netted by Vinod.

In another hockey match played in the evening session, NIEC beat UPDC 3-0. The first two goals were hit by Vinod Kumar of NIEC while the third goal was scored by Suyash.

In basketball, BBD defeated UPDC by 48-18 points in the boys’ section match while NIEC beat UPDC 12-3 in the girls’ section match.
