UP Timber XI win twenty20 cricket

Lucknow, January 11 UP Timber Club defeated CAL XI by 41 runs in the final to grab the top honours in the 1st Dr Akhilesh Das Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at Das Stadium here on Friday.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, UP Timber Club scored 144 runs losing six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Openers Anshul Kapoor (33) and Bhanu Pratap Singh (61) were the main run-getters. Bhanu’s 61 resulted off 47 balls which featured eight well-timed hits to the fence. Shahbaz Khan took two wickets while Abhinav Dixit and Meesam Hussain claimed apiece each.

In reply, the Cricket Association Lucknow team could score 103 runs losing nine wickets in the allotted number of overs. Besides Anand Rawat (40) and Abhinav Dixit (15), no other batsman could reach the double-digit mark due to the accurate bowling exhibited by most of the UP Timber bowlers.

Left-arm-spinner Neeraj Bajpai bowled well and took three wickets giving away 14 runs in his four over spell. Suraj Pratap Singh and SS Sengar took two wickets each. Jaidev Bisht claimed apiece.
