New Delhi Two teenagers, one of them a gold medallist in basketball at the national school games, died after they fell from a train in Mangolpuri, Outer Delhi, on Sunday.

The police said Praveen Kumar (18) and gold medallist Deepak Prakash (15) boarded the train with two friends from Rohtak to go to a market near Red Fort. Before the Mangolpuri station, the two boys stood at the door to get down at the station to buy some eatables.

At a curve, they slipped and were run over by the train. The incident occurred around 10.30 pm, police officers said. They were rushed to a government hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

Deepak and Praveen were residents of Jheend in Rohtak. All four friends were sportsmen.

An upcoming ball-handler from Haryana’s basketball hub, Kiloi village in the Rohtak district of Haryana, Deepak had been playing basketball for the last 3-4 years. The 15-year-old was part of the Delhi squad that picked up a gold medal at the under 14 National School Games last year. His elder brother, Hemant Sharma, is also a basketball player.
