UPTU’s decision to set up the cell comes in the wake of complaints filed by some students enrolled in the engineering and management colleges affiliated to the university.
“Some engineering students from Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Lucknow approached us alleging that the private companies which recruited them was not offering the salary package that was assured to them during campus placement,” said a senior UPTU official.
“The cell would primarily screen the companies which have come up recently. The upcoming cell would be a great relief for students as they would be made aware of the important details about the companies they are willing to join,” said UPTU Registrar US Tomer.
According to university officials, a panel of experts will soon be constituted for evolving a strategy for scrutinising credibility of new private companies. The panel will also conduct inquiries and blacklist the fraud companies.
The names of such companies will be posted on the university’s website, added the officials.
“We have chosen our Noida campus, as the area is close to Delhi from where several private companies either operate or have a branch,’” said a senior UPTU official.
At present there are over 280 UPTU-affiliated colleges in the state that are offering courses like Bachelor of Tech (BTech), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharma), Bachelor of Architecture (BArch), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHCT).
Prior to the formation of the special cell on its NOIDA campus, UPTU will be directing its affiliated colleges to furnish a list of all the private companies that are keen to take part in the campus placements.
