Chandigarh After the recent Sector-38 Gurdwara demolition furore, the Chandigarh Administration is all set to rein in stiffer norms, proper regulation and implementation of policies to prevent further encroachments in the city.

Based on recommendations mooted by certain senior officials of the UT Administration, a meeting is scheduled for next Thursday to finalise the constitution of a task-force to deal with encroachments in the city.

“With elections nearly three months away, if we touch any religious place, even if it is a case of blatant encroachment, a communal issue will erupt that will be flared up by political parties for their own vested interests,” said a senior official with the UT Administration.

The official added, “We are adopting legal methods and stern measures to prevent any further encroachments in the city. The existing encroachments will be removed in due course of time.”

The task force will prepare a daily-report on the status of encroachments in their respective areas of jurisdiction and prescribe steps to remove the same. “Even an inch of encroachment will have be prevented and mentioned in the daily report, which will be forwarded to the senior concerned officials of the respective departments,” added another senior official.
