Chandigarh, February 3 The UT Administration has decided to re-auction old registration numbers to garner revenue from those. Around 2,400 old registration numbers are awaiting takers.

“We are currently registering vehicles on the ‘CH 04 B’ series. But there are some numbers left in the older series. These numbers were earlier blocked but claimants did not go for these,” said RLA Niharika Rai.

However, if the auctions of these numbers do not generate enough response, the department will bring out a list of remaining numbers every three months through advertisements and offer them at half of their reserve prices. “It is additional revenue for us,” said an official.

Meanwhile, the last auction by the RLA, of the series CH04 B, has colleted Rs 13 lakh, and the auction of series CH 04 A has fetched Rs 11.71 lakh.

The number — 0001 in CH 04 B series auctioned for Rs 3.40 lakh against the reserve price of Rs 25,000. The number 0001 in CH 04 series and in CH 04 A series have fetched Rs 4.80 lakh and Rs 4.45 lakh, respectively, in the two separate auctions last year.

Officials have revealed that besides VIP numbers that were put to auction, other choice-numbers that could be reserved or blocked by paying an amount of Rs 5,000 have also generated a good response. While 32 VIP numbers were included in the list of open auctions in December 2007, the official website of the department reveals that more than 100 numbers were taken as choice numbers.
