Chandigarh An assistant engineer (AE) with the electrical division under the UT Engineering department was allegedly caught red handed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 on Saturday evening.

According to Central Bureau of Investigation officials, A K Midha had demanded a bribe from one Swarn Singh to clear the bills pertaining to some electrical work in Sector-43 bus stand.

After being intimated, the CBI officers decided to lay a trap for nabbing the accused.

Swarn Singh called up Midha who asked him to reach a place near the Judicial Academy building in Sector-43 by 2.30 pm to deliver the money.

“Midha reached the spot and asked the contractor to sit in his car. Swarn Singh took out the money, given by CBI sleuths, and handed it over to Midha.

We reached the spot immediately and arrested the assistant engineer red handed,” said a CBI official.

After being arrested, Midha was taken to the CBI office in Sector 30 for further investigations.
