UT SSP Dinesh Bhatt promoted

Chandigarh, February 5 Dinesh Bhatt, UT Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police today. The orders were issued by Ministry of Home Affairs. According to information received, Bhatt is currently posted as DIG Mizoram. He will be replaced as SSP (Operations) in Chandigarh by another 1993 batch IPS officer Mahavir Singh, who is presently posted in Delhi.

Bhatt, who also remained IG (Prisons) in Chandigarh, joined as SP (Headquarters and Intelligence and Incharge, Vigilance Cell) in May 2005. He was promoted as SSP (Operations) and given Vigilance Cell charge in September 2005. In July 2007, Bhatt was also given the charge of Training, besides retaining him as SSP (Operations).

Before coming to Chandigarh, Bhatt also served as Personal Security Officer to then prime minister of India Indira Gandhi, from 1982 to 1984. From 1985-1987, Bhatt served in the tribal area of Kar-Nicobar in Andaman and Nicobar Administration, after which he was posted as Head of Crime against Women Cell till February 2000.
