The two recent manja deaths in the city happened when the victims were crossing the flyovers at Shreyas Bridge in Ambawadi and Chanakyapuri over-bridge in Ghatlodia, within a week. The traffic cops have been unable to provide any protection given the unpredictability of manja flow. It is up to the commuters to wear some safety gear.

Atul Karwal, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, said: "Accidents can happen anywhere in the festive season. There is no way we can ensure safety to drivers even if flyovers seem to be a high-risk zone.

There is no provision of law to deal with the manja menace. People need to be more careful and wear helmets as well as throat protection gear."

Flyovers in the city stand at a height equivalent to a four-storey building.
