Panchkula, January 3 A 21-year-old girl from Uzbekistan alleged that she was gangraped by four youths at Hotel North Park late last night.

Sources in the police, however, said the case appeared to be that of immoral trafficking.

Superintendent of Police (Panchkula) Sandeep Khirwar, meanwhile, said there was only a minor altercation between the girl and her friends.

“At six in the evening, an Uzbek girl, who had come to India two months ago, and four boys booked two rooms in the hotel. One of the rooms was booked in the name of one of the boys whose name was mentioned as Rahul. The girl had called her aunt around 3 am claiming that she was raped after which she called the police,” said a senior police officer.

ASP Manish Chaudhary and SHO, Chandimandir, Pawan Kumar inspected the spot. The officials said while the four youths fled before the police could reach the hotel, the girl looked composed. “Initial investigations revealed that the girl was not raped but had come to the hotel with the four youths of her own accord. Inspection of the two hotel rooms showed

no signs of manhandling either.”

Though the officials said they found a number of used condoms and several wine bottles scattered in the room, no case of immoral trafficking has been registered against the girl.

Meanwhile, the girl has refused to proceed with the case. “At 7 in the morning today, the girl gave it in writing to the police that she did not want to pursue the case,” added the official.

Talking to Newsline, SP Khirwar said, “There was a minor altercation between the girl and her friends after which the police was called. As for her presence in the city is concerned, she said her passport had been stolen for which she said she has lodged an FIR with the Chandigarh police recently.”
