Uzbekistan pugilists arrive

Chandigah An eight-member Uzbekistan team arrived in Chandigarh to take part in the First International and 16th AK Misra Senior Men Boxing Championship to be held at Skating Rink, Sector 10 from March 11. Other teams, both foreign and national, will reach Chandigarh today.

According to Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) officials, SD Public School, Sector 32 and Sector 42 Boxing Hall have been selected as the venues where the teams will train. The lone Indian tournament to be approved by Asian Boxing Confederation (ABC) for the year 2008-09 will be officiated by renowned international and national panel officials that include PKM Raja, secretary general, Indian Boxing Federation and Krishan Narsi, member of AIBA.

Meanwhile, Government of India (Department of Sports and Youth Affairs) which had agreed cash prizes of RS 10 lakh is yet to be disbursed to IBF, New Delhi. Known boxers like AL Lakra, Nanao Singh, Saurab Verma, Gurpal Singh, Olympian Dinesh Kumar and Jitender are likely to participate in the championship.
