Mumbai An 18-year-old girl was tied up and beaten by robbers at her house in Mazgaon on Saturday. At 6:15 in the evening four men forced their way into Nisha Chagani’s apartment on Gunpowder Road, Mazgaon. The men tied her, beat her up and gagged her with a dupatta. They stole gold ornaments, a mobile phone, four wristwatches and more than a lakh in hard cash from the house.

The total value of the stolen goods is Rs 2,40,000. Nisha was alone at home at the time of the robbery. A case of violent theft has been registered by the Byculla police.

They are making sketches of the suspects as the watchman of the building and some children playing downstairs saw them. “Nisha is a college student and she is in the second year of B.Com. Her father runs a general store in Sewri and her mother is a housewife. The mother had gone out for some personal work when the robbery took place,” said an officer from the Byculla police station.

“According to the victim at around 6:15 pm the doorbell rang and she unsuspectingly opened the door to four men in monkey caps. They were armed with choppers. She said that when she protested they beat her and tied her. We believe that the accused were known to the family as they knew exactly where the money was apart from the fact that they knew when the girl would be alone,” added the officer. He added, “They weren’t masked when they came to the building. They said they wanted to meet the Chaganis so the watchman let them in.”
