According to the police, the incident occurred in the early hours of the day. All the gold ornaments, some apparel and other materials at the temple are missing. The theft first came to the notice of the temple priest, who found the main entrance and the Garbh Gruh doors broken in the morning.
In a complaint lodged at Damnagar Police Station, Janakrai Nimawat, the priest, said, “Gold jewellery like necklaces, anklet and bracelets adorning the lord have been stolen.”
Till Wednesday evening, the police did not find any evidence or link related to the crime. However, two similar incidents in a week’s time have indicated that some gang has become active, targeting the big religious places of the region.
Last week, a theft to the tune of over Rs 5 lakh was reported from Nageshwar Parswanath Jain Temple located on the outskirts of Rajkot. This temple has been considered to be one of the significant place of pilgrimage for the Jain community.
The Rajkot police are yet to get any major breakthrough in the first incident also.
