Pune, February 6 The city unit of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) continued their agitation against non-Maharashtrians on Wednesday. Raising slogans of “Jai Maharashtra,” a group of MNS activists entered the Shreenath theatre on Shivaji Road and forced the theatre manager Bhupendra Manmohan Shah to stop the screening of a Bhojpuri film Bhojpuriya Bhaiyaa around 1.45 pm. The MNS activists also tore the posters of the film and asked the audience to vacate the cinema hall while the movie was on.

MNS activist Prakash Dhamdhere denied any knowledge about the activists who carried out the agitation at the theatre. However, he said that the activists have not harmed anybody or caused any damage to the theatre. Shah lodged a complaint at Vishrambaug police station against the MNS activists.

Meanwhile, activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party Vidyarthi Morcha ransacked the toll naka of Pune Municipal Corporation at Bavdhan around 2.30 pm today.

Advocate Ganesh Varpe, leader of Yuva Morcha said in a press note that they damaged the toll naka “as it was installed on a road that was built exclusively for the residents of the sprawling Lavasa city. But the octroi was collected from local people,” Varpe said.

“Local citizens have repeatedly protested against the toll naka. The issue was also taken up in the court. Our demand is that octroi should be collected only from the residents of Lavasa city,” he added and threatened to intensify the agitation if the demands were not fulfilled.
