The last quarterfinal of the tournament proved to be match of 'two cities,' Pune F.C met their match, overcame hiccups a tie-breaker scare before steering clear of Osian's New Delhi Heroes 7-6 via the sudden death after sharing four goals.
The win for Pune F.C. meant keeping the local interest alive in the semifinals, but also became the first team to win three matches after Goa U-21. However, their joys were shortlived as they lost the semifinal match to Vasco Sports Club, Goa.
Earlier on Wednesday night, Pune F.C. virtually ‘survived’. Having opened a 2-0 lead thanks to goals through Emeka Ogbinna Hyginus and Bungo Singh, Osian's New Delhi Heroes on the brink of half-time missed pulling one back, when Baba Tunde crashed his header onto the upright from point-blank range. It surely was a costly miss, as in the second half they stormed back with two goals through Tunde and Amzad Hussain, which otherwise should have swung the match in their favour. In the ensuing tie-breaker, Pune F.C. who were first to take a shy on goal found themselves twice facing a near-possible situation. On both occasions it was Pune F.C.’s Nigerians, Emeka and Sylvester who sprayed it to the left and right respectively. However, luck was on their side and Osian's forfeited the opportunity through Bunngduia Ralte and Harisson.
Deadlocked at five apiece, it was PFC's 'keeper Balaji and James Efffioung, who found the net, before Amjad's effort was nullified by a Praveen Rawat.
