Chandigarh In an address to all chairpersons of teaching departments, Vice-Chancellor Prof Sobti on Friday highlighted the steps that needed to be taken to curb the menace of ragging on the university campus.

Anti-ragging committee, anti-ragging squads, monitoring cells and mentoring cells at the level of hostels and teaching departments will be set up to check ragging on the campus, the V-C said. Posters exhibiting prohibition of ragging by law and punishments to those found guilty will be prominently displayed in the departments, hostels and other places where students could be targeted.

Students seeking admission to the departments and hostels in the forthcoming academic session are required to furnish an undertaking signed by them and their parents/guardians separately along with the admission form to the effect that they shall not indulge in ragging and abide by the punishment awarded in case they did.

Prof Sobti also clarified hostel seats will be allocated to departments individually which, in turn, shall further be allotted to the admitted students by the chairperson of the respective department strictly on merit basis, as per the quota of seats allocated to them. The students desirous of seeking admission in the hostels, shall be required to submit to the respective department the admission form within three days from the date of commencement of the classes/academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor also stated the salary, provident fund, fee, attendance of students and leave by the teachers would be on line from the new academic session.
