Chandigarh The Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Professor Ranbir Chander Sobti, is all set to receive the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards, in February this year. Prof Sobti is being conferred the award for his contribution to the field of education and literature. He will be the third PU V-C to receive the honour.

Talking to Newsline, a modest Sobti said: “This is a moment of great pride. I attribute the award to my students without whom my journey would not have been possible. Education is my first love and my life’s biggest achievement.”

The woman behind this man’s success, his wife Prof Vipin Sobti said: “I am really happy that his hardwork and dedication have borne success. I have never seen him tired on his job and he is an inspiration for all.”

Well-wishers, including friends, colleagues and students, thronged his house after the news spread. PU Teachers’ Association president Prof Ronki Ram said: “It is a matter of great honour for the university. He deserves the award.”

PU Students’ Council president Sahil Nanda said: “He has always been an inspiration. I congratulate him on behalf of all students.”
